Gram’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cookies 2

Look at all those chocolate chips!

While I refer to these cookies as “Gram’s chocolate chip cookies” because my grandma (we call her “Gram”) used to make them for my cousins and I. I have great memories of sitting on her counter eating dough while she loaded up cookie sheets. She originally got the recipe from a trip on the Clipper Cruise Line; apparently they serve these awesome cookies on their ships.

What I love most about these cookies is that the dough to chocolate chips to nuts ratio is about 1:1:1. Which is a lot of chunk! Oh, and also that it has a little booze in it.
This recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies, so be prepared to share (or fight everyone off).  Continue reading

Improving Jacket Fit by Adding a Snap

Before and After 2

Big difference for little effort. My favorite type of fix!

I think most of us don’t usually fit into clothes off the rack. Well, maybe we fit IN to them but they’re not going to fit perfectly. For me, I have the hardest time with jackets. I think I’ve never found one that fits directly off the rack. Broad shoulders, long waist, small chest = impossible. One trick i’ve used is to add a hidden snap to the lapel to make the jacket lay better.

Getting clothes into the “toss” pile

Generally I don’t have a hard time getting rid of things. I used to, but living in small apartments and moving frequently somehow cured me of my previous problem of clinging to everything from ticket stubs, socks with holes, and magazine that I’d read three times. However, one of my biggest hurdles is still getting rid of clothes.
What makes it even harder is that practically all advice I see on sorting and purging wardrobes sounds something like this:
Fix & Toss

I think we have a problem...

  1. try everything on
  2. make piles of keep, toss/donate and fix
  3. fix the “fix” pile, toss the “toss” pile
In reality, is it ever this easy? Continue reading

Banana Bread Two Ways

A lot of bananas get eaten at my house. I eat the same thing every morning, toast with peanut butter and sliced bananas. Coincidentally, The Boyfriend and I both ate this for breakfast even before we met each other. Forget Wheaties, this really is the breakfast of champions. Somehow once and a while I get a little overzealous with my banana buying and I end up with some pretty brown ones before I get to them. Maybe I subconsciously do this on purpose so I get to make one of my favorite things… banana bread!

Lavender Sachets

Today I thought I’d share a craft that is so easy and useful, you will be amazed! One of the homemade Christmas gifts I made for my family this year were lavender sachets. You’ve probably seen those little pillows filled with lavender that you put in your unmentionables drawer. Lavender is great for keeping away moths from clothes and other fabrics, similar to cedar. Plus, it smells great, and is useful – two of my favorite qualities in a gift!

Aren't they pretty?

Organized Creativity with Evernote

I mentioned in my first post that I’m a nut for lists. Well, it’s actually more like I’m addicted and can’t live without them! In some ways I have a really good memory, but with other information I am absolutely horrible. Lists have been the only way to keep me sane. I’ve always carried around a little notebook or post-its and had lists on the back of receipts, envelopes, or my hand. And while I was writing everything down, those lists weren’t organized enough for me to use them effectively. Lose a list, and I was lost. Then I found the program Evernote.

Why Evernote = Amazingness

For those of you unfamiliar with Evernote, it is a cloud-based program that allows you to sync information from multiple devices. Personally I have downloaded Evernote on my iPhone, personal Mac laptop, and work PC desktop. But what makes this program even better is
